Team Fleury

(This is Suzy.)

I want each one of you to know that you’re a treasured part of Team Fleury.

What started as a offhand statement from Steve’s radiation oncologist has become a real thing. He called us the “Mr. and Mrs. Fleury Team” when complimenting Steve and me on following directions at home, and from there we quickly became “Team Fleury”.

Each one of you has cheered us on. You’ve brought soup and cake and cookies. You’ve sent cards and books. You’ve given words of encouragement. You’ve prayed. You’ve called and texted just to say hi. You’ve sent playlists and jokes. You’ve followed The Ring Theory and didn’t burden Steve by asking him for updates or giving him unsolicited advice. You’ve sent warmth and love and positivity in to that middle ring.

When I’m stressed and think of all the people praying for us and sending their positive thoughts and love, I feel a physical warmth flow over me, like being in a warm shower. I literally feel the warmth calming me down from my head down to my toes. Those thoughts and prayers are doing their job.

Those of you who are fellow patients — you’ve helped Steve more than you know. You’ve helped by sharing the journey with him, by sharing your own experiences, even by asking him for advice. I can see how good he feels when he’s sharing some trick he’s learned that helped him and might help you.

Even if all you’ve done is read this blog, you’ve helped. You’ve listened.

Team Fleury’s job isn’t done yet. We’re mostly in a waiting mode now, with an occasional trip to Mayo. It’ll take a while to heal. And a while longer to know that the treatment worked. So keep that warmth and love and positivity coming!

Thank you, Team Fleury!

  1. Read each & every post. Even though we’re back in Iowa, that doesn’t lessen prayers and healing thoughts being sent your way.
The journey isn’t over, you’re just on another new road to explore. Take care and keep “Team Fleury” strong!!

  2. I’m so happy for you, now that your treatment is done! Can’t wait to see you–hopefully soon. I’ll put a home-brew in front of you, and cook you a meal you can taste, swallow, and enjoy!
