Gratitude

I sit here, five days after my last treatment.  I can only think of how grateful I am.

My beautiful wife Suzy was by my side, taking care of me every step of the way.  Lee and Heidy hung out with me as much as possible, and we talked with Eric and Irene often. Their positivity got me through a few tough patches.

Then there was the staff at Mayo.  Dr. P,  my Radiation Oncologist, who reassured us in our early decisions that no matter which yellow brick road we chose, they would all end up at Oz. His team Dr. A, Heather, and Denise.  Dr. E, my Medical Oncologist and Sara his assistant.  My physical therapists Richard and Yvonne. My dietician Laura whose positivity is totally infectious.  Then the infusion team and the radiation therapists who were so helpful and understanding all along the way.

I also have great family and friends who checked in regularly, calling and texting encouragement.  They even listened while I bitched a bit here and there.  A special shout out goes to Alex, who gave us not only the Ring Theory, but great advice before and during my treatments.

I am a lucky man.

  1. It isn’t just luck. You built the loving, caring relationships along the path of your life. It’s a testament to who you are that makes people want to support and love you along your journey towards health. I think about how fortunate we are to live in the times that we do that afford the level and complexity of medical care that allows us to recover from illnesses that at one time would not have allowed us to be as ‘lucky’. Or that we happen to live in close proximity to the cream of the crop. Continued prayers for your healing journey!
